How to Read the Bible When You're Overwhelmed

When the Bible Feels Like Too Much

If you have ever opened the Bible, felt overwhelmed, and quietly closed it again, you are not alone. It is a big book, and starting can feel intimidating. The good news is you do not have to read it all at once.

Start Small and Warm

Begin with one book that is easy to enter, like the Gospel of John or the Psalms. Read a short passage, even just a few verses. The goal is not to cover ground. It is to meet God in what you read.

Ask One Simple Question

As you read, ask: what does this show me about God, and what is one thing I can carry into my day? That keeps it personal instead of academic.

Consistency Beats Volume

A few honest minutes each day will do more for you than an ambitious plan you cannot sustain. Come as you are, come regularly, and let it grow from there.
