The Three Gifts Hidden in 2 Timothy 1:7
A Verse Worth Memorizing
There is one verse I come back to again and again, and I would encourage you to tuck it deep into your heart:
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. — 2 Timothy 1:7
When fear is loud, this verse is a quiet reminder of what is actually true. Notice that it does not only tell us what God has not given us. It tells us what He has. There are three gifts hiding in plain sight.
Power
Fear tells you that you are helpless. Power says otherwise. This is not about being strong on your own; it is the strength that comes from God working in and through you. On the days you feel weakest, that is exactly where His power tends to show up.
Love
Fear isolates. It talks you into pulling back, bracing yourself, and expecting the worst. Love does the opposite. It draws us toward God and toward people. Scripture says perfect love drives out fear, because you cannot be fully ruled by fear and fully rooted in love at the same time.
A Sound Mind
Maybe this is the gift you long for most: a mind that is settled instead of spinning. A sound mind is clear, steady, and self-controlled. It does not mean you will never have another anxious thought. It means those thoughts no longer get the final word.
Living It Out
Try this today. When fear rises, name which gift you need in that moment, whether power, love, or a sound mind, and ask God for it specifically. Simple, honest prayers like that have a way of changing everything over time.
You were made to live in peace, and this verse is one of the doorways in.
